School Garden
Today we had the privilege of having Andy Griggs, volunteers from the community garden and ladies from Lough Neagh Discovery Centre come into school to help us with some very important work. Several months ago Andy had helped us to secure some money through applying for a grant to improve the school grounds.
We have a beautiful part of the school garden that we have been unable to use because it is very wet and soggy so Andy suggested we plant a willow dome as the willow will help to soak up the excess water in the ground. The P5 class were asked to help out with the idea that they will be able to help monitor the willow and teach other classes how to look after it.
We also helped to plant a variety of native bulbs and other plants that will help to attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
Although the ground is very wet at the moment we can’t wait to see how different it looks in the springtime.
We would like to say a huge thank you to Andy, Paul, Alastair, Nicola and Kacper and the ladies from the Lough Neagh Discovery Centre for giving up their time to help us transform this area.
